Emily Steffian has been an artist and designer for 25 years, specializing in one of a kind jewelry and mixed media sculpture. She got her Masters in Industrial Design from RISD in 2010 with a plan to use her knowledge towards community design. Emily and Daniel Kamil have been working together since 2003 when they created their first cinema The Revival House, in Westerly, Rhode Island. In 2008, they bought the Cable Car Cinema located in Providence. In 2016 - it will be celebrating its 40th year anniversary. The Cable Car Cinema specializes in showcasing the best independent, international and documentary films. This past spring, Emily and Daniel won the Rhode Island Innovation Fellowship Grant that will support the creation of a film and media center - The Providence Cinematheque. The project will be a for profit /non profit hybrid that will exhibit exceptional film programming with an emphasis on making sure underrepresented filmmakers have a place to showcase their work. They have formed The Providence Center for Media Culture which will produce the first annual Providence Art and Design Film Festival in the Fall of 2015. The Center for Media Culture will create an educational curriculum in media literacy, form an artist-in-residency program and focus on repertory programming and will engage actively with community partners.
